Jack sat across from Lilly at Max’s Tavern. He had ordered her a twenty percent meat burger and fries, and she had put away the first one so quickly that he bought her another plate. He checked his watch as he turned his glass of beer- come on Ronny, he thought, answer the goddamn message-
